  • update on our family in Japan

I wanted to give an update about my brother in law stationed in Japan.  We heard from them yesterday and they are safe, they spent the night in a train station but they were unharmed.  Please continue to pray for the people of Japan and our military stationed there.  My brother in law is a chaplain so please pray for him as he counsels people and points them to Christ during this horrific ordeal.

    Thanks for your prayers.  Jessye

Here's a pic of my bil on the right and my hubby on the left.  This was taken almost 2 years ago, the boys have grown so much.

  • a family favorite meal

I thought I would share what we had for dinner last night.  I made a baked apple pancake, it's from an Amish quilters cookbook that my mom gave me.  My boys cannot get enough of it.  There was a time when I would half the recipe but not anymore.  Serve it with bacon or sausage...our favorite is chicken apple sausage.

1/2 cup margarine ( I always use butter)

2-3 apples, peeled and thinly sliced

    6 eggs, beaten

    1 1/2 cups milk

    1 cup flour

    3 Tbsp. sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1/2 tsp. cinnamon

    4 Tbsp. brown sugar

Melt the butter at 425 in a 9x13 pan.  Add apple slices to pan (should sizzle).  Remove dish from oven immediately to keep apples from burning.  Mix together eggs and milk.  Beat in flour, sugar, vanilla, salt and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon.  Pour batter over apples and sprinkle with brown sugar and remaining 1/4 tsp. cinnamon.  Bake at 425 in middle of oven for 20 minutes or until puffed and brown.  Serve immediately.

    Fresh out of the oven.

    This is what was left.

  • Look who's five

It doesn't seem possible that my 2nd son is 5 today.  He was up early this morning ready to open his presents.  I was hoping they would sleep in a little because we got home late from church last night.  Oh, the excitement of children.

A lady at church gave him his very own tool set, now he can help Daddy fix and build things.  With a house full of boys, I'm sure we'll have a wide assortment of tools and gadgets.

Daddy took the day off and we're going to Chuck E. Cheese this afternoon for family fun day.  Time to go finish making the frosting, he requested a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and we picked out a batman candle.  I love these special days!

  • Happy Wednesday

Just think about the shape of beans

         and flowers

         and mice

    and big machines!

Just think about the shape of strings

         and elephants..................and other things.

Can you guess what today is?

If you guessed Dr. Seuss's birthday, you're right.

Hope you're having a great day,

  • I heart Goodwill

I've mentioned before that I love Goodwill and treasure hunting as my boys call it.  They love to go with me and look at everything, it's kinda silly but it's a treat for them and sometimes we go to Starbucks or McD's afterwards.

My hubby was kidding with me the other night and said he may have to ban me from going to Goodwill.  He likes going just as much as I do , but we are transferring next summer and he was reminding me that we don't need a lot of little junky stuff.  This made me laugh!  So, we're on the lookout for a computer desk, not sure if I'll find one but it is fun looking.

Here's a few of my favorite finds.

The red shelf was a great deal, I was so excited when I saw it that I almost ran over to it and snatched it up.  The pitcher is handmade somewhere here in CA, it has the name on the bottom.  The vase is also from Goodwill, I think the wreath is from Michael's and the watering can is from the grocery store.

I'm amazed at what people give away.

This is my beach side of the living room.  I have my Kodiak picture hanging above and my Kodiak seaglass in the jar.   I got the tray at Marshalls and the planter/vase at Goodwill.  The table is a yard sale find.  I love a good yard sale, too.  Yes, those are real sticks that we got from the yard.  The boys love bringing me sticks.

I wonder what I'll find next?  Oh wait, I'm looking for a computer desk.  What have you found lately?

    Have a good day!

  • I love decorating and prettying my home, it's fun and makes the home spruced up a bit.  I've found some great thrift store finds lately, I'll have to post on that another time.  I never really got into thrifting and goodwill stores until we moved here, can I say that I'm addicted!!  Anyway, I'm getting off on a rabbit trail.

Friday night I enjoyed a fun time of fellowship with the ladies from church. This was the 3rd year I hosted it, we had 22 ladies over for a yummy Chinese dinner.  We got the food from a fabulous little restaurant in town...if my dear friend Beth ever comes for a visit this is a place I would take her.   Wink!

We also revealed our secret pals and picked new ones for the upcoming year.  Do you guys do this at your churches?  I've always enjoyed being sneaky and trying to figure out who had me.

I realized after the pary that I forgot to take pictures of the ladies, oh well.  Next time.

My little helper, helping me with with last minute cleaning.

Now for a randome picture, I must be getting tired b/c I'm a little scatter brained tonight.  My hubby snapped this picture, we've had some amazing sunsets lately.  I'm loving our Cali weather.

Time for some sleep.  Have a great week!

  • Got a Minute?

I've been organizing some of the shelves in my kitchen and dining room and I found a folded up piece of paper.  I almost threw it away but something on it caught my eye and I opened it up and read these words:

    Got A Minute? (author unknown)

She mended a doll and the washing waited.

The dust lay while the fish hook was baited.

When “injuns” attacked, her dinner burned up.

She provided a bed for a straying pup.

A two-year-old helped with the cookie dough.

The ironing dried out while she romped in the snow.

     Her neighbors whispered to one another;

But the children laughed and adored their mother.

Oh Father, as I go about my duties day by day,

teach me just the thoughts to have

and just the words to say.

I need to be reminded of these precious words every day, especially on those days when I just have to get one more thing done and the interruptions seem endless!

The line about romping in the snow made me think of all of you buried in the snow.  Throw some snow balls for me

    Have a good week friends!

  • Our Day

Today is story time at the library, so we try to go every Wednesday.  It's our special day with special treats.

We had a lot of books to return.

The theme of story time was on pets.  Sammy slept through it, he got up pretty early today around 5:30.  It's not too often we're up when Daddy leaves for work.

We picked out some books and the boys got their hands stamped.  We crossed the bridge and went to a bakery nearby that gives cookies to the kids after story time.  Books and cookies, what could be better

There were two ducks in the creek.

Sam got woke up when we got to the bakery so he got a cookie too, a sugar cookie with red and pink sprinkles.

Today is such a beautiful sunny day here in CA...spring is certainly in the air today.

On our way home we stopped at this place.

    Happy Wednesday to you.

  • happy little fingers

I was in the kitchen washing dishes tonight and I heard a little somebody playing on the piano.  I thought it was one of the older boys so I walked to the dining room and was surprised when I saw our little Sam happy as can be “playing” the piano.  I quickly grabbed the camera and he gave me a big smile.

We’ve had this piano since we were stationed in Michigan. I’ve always wanted to play the piano and started lessons when I was pregnant with our oldest eight years ago but never kept it up.  I think I’m living out my piano dreams with my oldest son…he’s been playing for about a year and a half.  Every now and then I’ll practice some of his easy little songs.

My dear friend Beth got me hooked on David Nevue’s music.  His music is so peaceful, I could listen to it for hours.  A yummy smelling candle and relaxing piano music are some things I can’t get enough of lately.

What about you?  What are some things you enjoy during the winter?
